  1. Over the 1D opening I bid 4S, admittedly 1 more than I should have but it put the opposition off their game. And it was Jack.

  2. I think both east and west can bid here. Especially west. With the west hand you can make a game opposite the cJ and a winning diamond finesse. That is so little and there are many other hands that will be successful. Therefore you need to take action.

    Favourable vulnerability is the best time to stretch your preempts. So 4S is ok.
