Standard in most systems with 5-5 suits is to bid the higher ranking. bidding the lower gives oppo more opportunity to overcall as happened above. Following pard's 1S bid South's hand has turned enormous. Most partnerships play X by North as showing 4 spades, thus 1S over 1H shows 5 card length. Using Losing Trick Count (LTC) (appropriate only when there is a fit) u have a 5 loser hand opposite at worst a 9 loser hand. The LTC calc says subtract the combined losers from 24 to find the level u can bid to, in this case 24-14=10, ie game. Just bid it.
West is pushing it to bid 5H, with a poor KS. North should X 5H.

The lead of 2D seems strange. Pard has bid clubs and spades.
