2D is a very marginal overcall. Not a great suit, balancish shape, poor heart feature, length in oppo's suit.
The lead of 5H is poor. With Qx of pard's suit the standard lead is the Q. If pard has the K and declarer the A the suit will be blocked whereas north should be keen to force declarer to ruff given the trump holding.
At another table the bidding went 1S p p 2H ap. 2H is OK in the balancing position despite the poor quality suit, as pard is likely to have values.
If my partner overcalled 2D I would be very tempted to take another bid with the south cards although there is a danger of a misfit.
ReplyDeleteWest's 2S is also dangerous. East's pass should have either fewer than three spades or fewer than six points. In either case you could be in trouble vulnerable even with the good shape..
