  1. A convention that many play in west's position is Unusual 2NT, which shows the 2 lowest unbid suits, in this case both minors. Should be at least 5-5 is distribution

  2. The vulnerable north does not really have much extra on which to base 3H. You are probably hoping for down one as the most common result and you may need the opponents not to double you. Here you get a minimum partner that does not fit very well and a bad break and even with no double you earn a bad score.
