  1. West should prefer to overcall in a major to a minor (unless playing some special convention to show both suits).

    Given the 2D overcall north's 2H should show a five-card suit. Better would be a takeout double. Although that happens to not work so well on this hand if south bids 3C. If the overcall was 2S as recommended then I would pass with the north hand and hope they are in trouble.

    South did way too much bidding here. When you open 1NT you pass the captaincy of the hand over to your partner. That is by and large partner is responsible for making all of the decisions although you maybe consulted - asked if you have a major or how strong you are. South should pass 2H and pass 3H although I have no idea why north rebid the four-card heart suit.
