  1. I like 1NT with a balanced hand even though it has a five card major. However usually the standard taught to beginners and played by very many is to not usually open 1NT with a five-card major.

South's overcall of 2H is way too light. Four points in a balanced hand is going to cause you problems. To see how much trouble you are in imagine if east or west doubled 2H. Then you would get two tricks for -1100. Ouch!!!

After 2H west is right to aim at slam (or at least inviting) However 4C then blasting 6NT may not be the best option. With a distributional hand you should at least try to explore for your fits first. The standard way to do that is to jump to 3S which shows five spades and enough for game. In the first instance it offers a choice between 3NT and 4S. Here opener would raise to 4S and you would know you had a fit and then you can explore for slam from there.

On this auction 6NT was a little lucky in that the 1NT opener was an absolute maximum and the club suit broke favourably. With a minimum and or some bad breaks you might struggle in 6NT. And worse 6S could still be making.
