  1. North should have a lot better suit for 1S overcall. What east should think is that partner is likely to be short spades, thus excellent cross ruff prospects, so game could be on even if partner is on a minimum opener. More advanced partnerships play "splinters" here, eg 3C to show 4+ trump support and short clubs.

    The club 5 as opening lead. Leading away from an Ace against a suit contract often loses a trick.
