At another table: p 2d ap South is too strong for a weak 2 in diamonds, and the suit is too weak. 1d would be preferred. At another table:p 1d p 2d ap North should try 1NT rather than 2d, which denies a 4 card major. 2d should have 4 card support and deny a 4 card major.

If you don't like 1D with six small diamonds you could consider opening 1NT with a point light.
